A Little Night Music

THIS TITLE IS LICENSED BY MUSIC THEATRE INTERNATIONAL (MTI).

Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's amorous waltz transports audiences to an idyllic weekend in the country.

Sondheim demonstrates exceptional artistry by transforming Ingmar Bergman's comedy of manners, Smiles of a Summer Night, into a musical characterized by sophisticated execution and refined elegance. This work has garnered four Tony Awards and has significantly influenced the theatrical landscape.

Set in 1900 Sweden, A Little Night Music examines the complex relationships involving actress Desirée Armfeldt, lawyer Fredrik Egerman, and Count Carl-Magnus Malcom. When Desirée visits Fredrik's town, their past romance resurfaces, inciting jealousy among their partners: Fredrik's wife Anne, the Count's wife Charlotte, and Desirée's current lover. The parties agree to a weekend at Desirée's mother's estate, leading to potential new romances and surprising developments.

A Little Night Music presents a compelling exploration of themes such as adoration, regret, and desire. This dramatic musical effectively highlights the talents of skilled vocalists through its complex score and sophisticated orchestrations, featuring Sondheim's renowned composition, "Send in the Clowns."
