It features a story by Tony Award winner Jeff Whitty, music and lyrics from Pulitzer and Tony Award winners Lin-Manuel Miranda and Tom Kitt, and lyrics by Amanda Green. The production received a Tony Award nomination for Best Musical.

Campbell, a seasoned cheerleader at Truman High School, faces an unexpected challenge when redistricting requires her to attend Jackson High School for her senior year. Despite these obstacles, she collaborates with the school's dance crew, led by the determined Danielle, to create a competitive team for the National Championships.
