Les Miserables (School Edition)

THIS TITLE IS LICENSED BY MUSIC THEATRE INTERNATIONAL (MTI)

Les Misérables holds the record as the world’s longest-running musical, adapted from Victor Hugo's novel and containing one of the most influential scores in musical theater history. Since its 1985 London premiere, this multi-award-winning production remains an important cultural work. The School Edition incorporates updated orchestrations from the 2014 Tony-nominated Broadway revival and provides additional support materials, including a Reference Recording for rehearsals, an improved Director’s Guide, and an expanded Study Guide.

In nineteenth-century France, Jean Valjean is released after prolonged imprisonment but encounters widespread mistrust and mistreatment. He violates his parole to pursue a new life, initiating a continuous quest for redemption while being persistently pursued by Inspector Javert, who is unwilling to accept Valjean’s capacity for moral change. During the 1832 Paris student uprising, Javert confronts his principles after Valjean spares his life and rescues the revolutionary beloved by Valjean’s adopted daughter.

Les Misérables School Edition is a sung-through musical featuring numerous well-known melodies, designed for a cast of skilled vocalists. This author-approved abridgement runs just over two hours and preserves the essential elements of the original work.
